Twinning programme

- a model for collaboration across borders

Twinning is a direct personal working relationship between two partners sharing common goals and involved in similar activities.  The purpose is to exchange ideas and experiences and to collaborate on common tasks, such as policy development or specific projects.  Specifically, the aim of the Forum twinning programme is to strengthen the technical profiles of the pharmaceutical associations in the countries of central and eastern Europe, enabling them to work together towards continued professional development and improved health.

Twinning can be established around any topic of common interest and the Forum secretariat provides support to members in identifying a possible twinning partner. Each twinning pair is responsible for their own programme and works independently of other pairs.

The Forum twinning programme was started in February 2000 and has, so far, involved eight countries twinning around the Forum patient education campaign "Ask about your medicines".  The relationship between the partners strengthened through the twinning process and all twinning partners have expressed great satisfaction with the cooperation.

Future twinning programmes will depend on funding.
