Dear Friends and Colleagues
The Development of pharmacy practice is crucial to the survival of our profession. Twenty years ago a new concept was introduced and well accepted by European pharmacy practice as it fitted very well into the thinking we had at that time.
Pharmaceutical care became a revolution to pharmacy practice and is now a standing element in education, an important part of practice and an essential research object. It is interesting to look at the implementation when it comes to European pharmacy practice and pharmaceutical care. I believe that we still face challenges, and some countries struggle more than others with implementation. It is also interesting to learn that the concept of pharmaceutical care is defined and used differently in different countries by professions, organisations and individuals. The concept has been accepted and promoted by the Council of Europe. The Pharmaceutical Care concept is therefore most relevant to discuss and develop further.
I am very pleased to make the first announcement of a European Conference on Pharmaceutical Care:
The value of community pharmacists to patient care. The conference is a joint initiative of WHO and the EuroPharm Forum and will take place at WHO's premises in Copenhagen on 30 September – 1 October in connection with our General Assembly on 2 October.
The conference will be a platform for examples on Pharmaceutical Care in active practice, for working together and exchanging knowledge on the concept and use of Pharmaceutical Care. We shall invite members and stakeholders to describe the situation of pharmaceutical care and discuss future developments in working groups.
I will keep you informed about the Conference. If you have comments or input, we will welcome these very much.
Best regards
Dick Tromp
President, EuroPharm Forum
