At the 69th International Congress of FIP held in Istanbul in September 2009, the EuroPharm Forum had the pleasure of a
private meeting with
President Kamal Midha and General Secretary Ton Hoek during which the status of the EuroPharm Forum with respect to the FIP was discussed.
Some Forum members had, at the
Consultation held in May, requested that we explore the opportunity to establish a closer relationship to the FIP, eg by including the EuroPharm Forum among the FIP Fora, and this was on the table.
President Kamal Midha assured the representatives of the EuroPharm Forum that the FIP indeed regards and treats this Forum as they do the other five Regional Fora. Dr Midha and Mr Hoek explained that, in their view, there was no need to formalise this relationship, and President Midha referred to his speech at the Opening Ceremony, in which he had depicted the Regional Fora as the arms and legs of the FIP organisation.
The EuroPharm Forum also met with
some of its observers:
The Forum participated in the
Annual Meeting of the PCNE
(Pharmaceutical Care Network Europe) and presented the Observatory for pharmacy practice development as a tool which the PCNE could use to publish its work. The Observatory was well received, and we expect to collaborate more on this in the future.
Another productive meeting was held with
representatives of the ESCP (European Society of Clinical Pharmacy). Whereas the ESCP and the Forum work within the same areas, the ESCP has focus on the professional development of individuals, while the Forum focuses on the empowerment of the professional organisations of pharmacists. As an outcome of the meeting, the delegates decided to establish a Memorandum of Understanding for Collaboration in order to pinpoint possible areas of collaboration. The ESCP also expressed a keen interest in contributing to the Observatory.
A meeting was arranged with representatives of some of the countries that were unable to participate in the Consultation organised in May. Representatives from
Austria, France, Portugal and Switzerland were able
to fit the meeting into their schedules. They voiced their views on the EuroPharm Forum and provided their advice for the future. All in all, the meeting was very enlightning and informative.

The
Observatory was presented both as a poster and a short oral communication.
It was well received, and this is reflected on the number of visits to the site. |
Finally, the EuroPharm Forum arranged a meeting with representatives of its
Professional Advisory Board who were brought up to date on the Forum's situation. The continuation of the development of the professional areas was also discussed on this occasion.
