Letter to Members, Observers and Sister Fora
EuroPharm Forum News June 2009
Dear Colleagues and Friends
First and foremost, let me express my gratitude to those members and observers that participated in the
Consultation meeting. It was indeed very valuable to hear your voices, and you have provided the Executive Committee with ideas and views that we will use in our work in the coming months.
I am especially pleased to learn that you have noticed the work done by the Executive Committee, the Professional Secretariat and myself in the past months and, in particular, I am pleased to conclude your recommendation that we should continue to develop the Forum. We feel very much supported in our approach, and we are under the impression that we are on the proper track.
I will brief you shortly on the main discussion points of the Consultation:
-
The participants agreed that the EuroPharm Forum Vision to Practice 2020 encompasses essential and relevant principles, and that the future of the Forum can very well unfold based on this vision. We have noted your suggestions and, as far as they match the strategy, we will include them.
-
The Consultation revealed a need to map the unique role and function of the Forum in relation to the FIP and PGEU. The participants in the Consultation agreed that the Forum has an important part to play which fits very well with the agendas of the FIP and PGEU. At the same time, there was consensus that the Forum fits in very well on the same arena as our other observer organisations.
-
Several of the participants in the meeting recognised that the members could have done more to contribute to the professional work in the Forum. A lesson learned from this is to involve the professional people in the member organisations and not just the politicians. Communication strategies at the Forum level should go hand in hand with communication at the national level.
-
As the Forum plays an important role, it is essential that as many as possible of the European countries are represented in the membership. The Consultation suggested that the Executive Committee look into alternative ways to become a member of the Forum.
-
The
Observatory was introduced to the participants and was very well received. The participants estimated this tool to be very valuable to them and their members and expressed their intention to contribute to the Observatory.
All in all, it is with a good feeling that the Executive Committee starts the preparations for the Annual Meeting in October. We are on the right track, and the endorsement from the Consultation has provided us with renewed energy. This shows, once again, the importance of communicating with members, and we will continue these talks, hopefully also with those of you that were prevented from attending the Consultation.
With the best wishes for the summer,
Dick Tromp
President, EuroPharm Forum
